LaVar Ball unsurprisingly is betting on LeBron James and his son Lonzo to bring another championship to Los Angeles.
After correctly predicting, maybe before most people, that LeBron James would end up in a Lakers uniform, LaVar Ball is once again predicting what the Lakers are going to do. But like most of his predictions there isn’t a timetable to hold him to if he turns out to be wrong.
The Lakers will field a team next season with James, Lonzo and Rajon Rondo, three players that are known for having the ball in their hands quite often. Coach Luke Walton will undoubtedly have a balancing act on his hands with that trio, but LaVar isn’t concerned about how Lonzo will mesh with his new teammates.
“Lonzo’s always been the same player, everybody loves playing with him. He’s been like that all his life, he makes everyone around him better. You’re not going to find one person to come in the game and say ‘you know what I hate playing with Lonzo Ball.'”
While that may be true, Lonzo, as well as the rest of the Lakers young core will experience some growing pains next season when they’re put on the court with LeBron. While there may not be championship expectations placed on this new-look Lakers just yet, there is the pressure of just making the playoffs in a deeper than ever Western Conference.
Not only is LaVar convinced that the Lakers will raise another banner in the Staples Center, but he still believes that all three of his sons will be wearing purple and gold one day.
“I don’t know what year, but the bottom line is whenever they get there, all three of them together, monsters,” Ball said. “Can’t beat them.”
Both of his younger sons, LiAngelo and LaMelo are currently playing in LaVar’s JBA league putting up video game stat lines. But, if there’s anything we know about LaVar it’s that he likes to “speak things into existence,” so if all three of his sons happen to end up on the Lakers that will be an impressive accomplishment for the Ball family.
