Indianapolis Colts: Off-Season Overview

The Indianapolis Colts might be the team in the NFL with the most question marks coming into this fantasy season.

Andrew Luck‘s wonky shoulder derailed last season for Indy.

TY Hilton has still done well, despite Luck not being available. Not well enough, however, if he was on your team. He never lived up to the 2nd or 3rd round pick you gave up for him.

The good news is Colts GM Chris Ballard says Luck won’t have any limitations when the Colts start training camp on Thursday. The bad news is, we don’t know how long that will last. With the yardage Luck racks up when healthy, I think you roll the dice and count on him being dominant again in 2018. That’ll mean good things for not just him, but his big targets as well.

Frank Gore brought some real, albeit unexpected production at running back, despite his age. Gore is no longer there. Second year RB Marlon Mack and rookie Nyheim Hines take over a backfield that’s been starving for some burst and speed. Hines brings both of those things, while Mack should handle the hard yards with his surgically repaired shoulder. This will be one of the best camp battles this off-season. Look for an even split, with Hines’ best value coming in PPR leagues.

I Gotta Get Me One of Those!

Andrew Luck, man. It all hinges on him. If he’s healthy, he’ll be a top 7 quarterback. TY Hilton will be a top 7 wide receiver. Probably even top 5. If he struggles to stay on the field, that dream quickly becomes a nightmare.

At this point, until they show a reason not to, I’m going to say trust in it.

Invest in Hilton.

Invest in Luck.

But have a backup plan.

Buyer Beware

I’ve never bought the hype on Jack Doyle. I know people like him, he’s shown flashes, etc. He’s just never been the guy for me. There are other tight ends you can get better value out of in the spot where you’d be taking Doyle. I know it wouldn’t be a large investment anyway, but I would advise against him.

Stay Woke

After last year, everybody wants the next Alvin Kamara. Nyheim Hines has a chance to be that player. Hines has explosive speed, and as a former receiver can be a great counter punch to Marlon Mack. Nyheim is definitely a player to watch for, especially in keeper or dynasty leagues.

Ryan Grant is another name to keep in mind on draft day. Again, assuming Andrew Luck is healthy, yards will be gained seemingly by osmosis. Grant never really got a big opportunity to suck up targets in Washington. He’ll have his chance in an Andrew Luck offense in Indy.
