DraftKings PGA: RBC Canadian Open Picks and Analysis
DraftKings PGA: RBC Canadian Open
The tour moves from Scotland to Ontario this week for the RBC Canadian Open. Glen Abbey will look nothing like the burnt fairways and pot bunkers we saw at Carnoustie. While Carnoustie was dry and played right into the hand of bogey avoiders and ball-strikers’ who crush the wedge game, Glen Abbey tends to favor the bomber ball-strikers who can go low. Johnatton Vegas has won this event the last two years, posting final rounds of 64 in 2016 to finish 12-under and 65 in 2017 to finish 21-under. Jason Day won in 2015 posting a 17-under.
Glen Abbey will likely play closer to 21-under again this year; the rough will be more manageable and the course will be softer than it has in the past. The par-72 plays 7,253 yards and boasts some of the toughest fairways to hit on the tour. Tough fairways and small greens tend to favor accurate golfers, but expect the bombers to have a huge advantage this week with the course playing soft. Most of the par-5’s are gettable in two, and the really big hitters will be firing it in with a wedge.

RBC Canadian Open – Picks
$11,700 Dustin Johnson
Dustin Johnson is the by far the best play on the board. It does not bother me one bit that he missed the cut at The Open Championship. He is now 13/14 on cuts, has 2 wins, and has 8 top 10’s this year. DJ leads the field in Scoring, Birdie-or-Better, Off-the-Tee and Tee-to-Green Gained. Johnson has an 8th and a 2nd at Glen Abbey the past two years.
$9,800 Tony Finau
My model loves Tony Finau this week, ranking second to only Dustin Johnson. He bombs the ball, his approaches are great and is an excellent DK scorer. His form is great, making 9 of his last 10 cuts. His course history is also solid, making the cut the past 3 years with a T5 last year.
$9,100 Ian Poulter
Ian Poulter missed the cut at The Open Championship, but had been playing well across the pond. Poulter recorded 5 made cuts and failed to finish worse than 30th on the European Tour preparing for The Open. Poulter will now make his way back to the US, returning to the RBC Canadian Open, where he finished 3rd last year.
RBC Canadian Open – Values
$7,200 JJ Spaun
Spaun is just starting to regain the hot form everyone saw at the beginning of the year. Spaun scored a top-15 his last time out at the Greenbrier Classic, where he was striking his irons magnificently. Spaun ranks very similar to Burgoon in my rankings, so it is a good idea to stack both of these guys.

$7,100 Bronson Burgoon
Burgoon may be playing the best golf of his life. He is ranked 201 in the world and sits 98th in the FedEx Cup. That ranking is helped by two top-10 finishes in his last three events: T2 at John Deere Classic and T6 at Quicken Loans National. Burgoon ranks in the top-50 on the PGA tour in 5/7 categories that I am emphasizing.
$6,800 Sam Saunders
Saunders has made three consecutive cuts at Glen Abbey, and sets up very well for this course. Saunders is an excellent driver of the golf ball and he makes a lot of birdies. At this price tag a made cut is all you are really looking for, but I love the upside that Saunders possesses.
