MLB DFS Picks – Standouts: July 24th
Tonight’s MLB DFS Picks slate features 14 games with, Boston (5.5), Houston (5.5), Texas (5.4), Cleveland (5.3), and Oakland (5.3), holding the best projected team totals. With high-priced pitchers like, Aaron Nola, Kenta Maeda, and Gerrit Cole available, finding value will be critical for success tonight. We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, line movement, and stolen base upside.
MLB DFS Picks: Batted Ball Stats
Curtis Granderson – DK $3500, FD $2800
To say that Curtis Granderson has been awful from a fantasy perspective recently, is letting him off easy. However, Granderson’s batted ball data indicates that he is a prime candidate for positive regression. In last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 10 feet, his exit velocity is up 1 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is down only 6%. Given these numbers, Granderson’s regression to the mean seems inevitable. The only question is when? On DraftKings, he only costs $3500, which is over $500 cheaper than where he was priced at in early July.
Batter Splits
Travis Shaw – DK $4300, FD $3200
Travis Shaw will draw an advantageous matchup tonight, as he’ll face the righty, Jeremy Hellickson. Shaw is much better against right-handed pitchers, with a .364 wOBA split (.103 better than when facing a lefty) and a .247 ISO split (.157 better than when facing a lefty). Shaw is a much more enticing play on FanDuel, at only $3200.
Marcell Ozuna – DK $3600, FD $2900
Marcell Ozuna will face off against the righty, Homer Bailey, tonight. Ozuna is one of the few batters that holds reverse splits, and he’s actually much more effective against right-handed pitching. Ozuna holds a .327 wOBA split (.025 better than when facing a lefty) and a .158 ISO split (.057 better than when facing a lefty).
Line Movement
Felix Pena – DK $5500, FD $7100
The Angeles will play host to the visiting Chicago White Soxs tonight. A game in which LAA opened as a -162 favorite. Since opening, this line has moved up even further, and LAA currently sits at -180. In addition to the movement on the side, the total has also seen movement. The game total opened at 9 runs, but is now down a half of a run, to 8.5. This movement should benefit LAA starting pitcher, Felix Pena. Pena has strung a few impressive outings together lately, and he is severely underpriced on DraftKings tonight. Pena should also offer upside, as he currently holds a K/9 of 11.688. He’s been on a pitch count lately, so this will be important to monitor throughout the day.
Stolen Base Upside
Washington Base Runners
Washington base runners will have an attractive matchup tonight, as they face the righty, Junior Guerra. Guerra has surrendered 8 stolen bases, over the course of 97.2 innings pitched this season. Depending on what the Nationals’ lineup looks like, this could benefit base runners like Michael Taylor, Adam Eaton, and Bryce Harper.
