10. Mariah Duran wins Women’s Skateboard Street in a huge underdog story

When the ladies hit the skatepark they never hold back. With the female skate events at the X Games still being fairly new, the women who compete in these events do so with pride. They put everything they have into the tricks they throw, and the fans enjoy every minute of it.

This year the Women’s Skateboard Street competition was a tight race to see who would come out on top. The favorite coming into 2018 was last year’s gold medalist Aori Nishimura. After finishing 10th and seventh in the last two X Games, Mariah Duran was looking to get to the top of the podium and make a name for herself among the ones to watch.

The 21-year-old Albuquerque native threw down the most solid run of the day and put the rest of the field behind her. Stringing together her tricks with ease, Duran landed some of the most difficult tricks in the street competition. She came out early with a rail slide followed shortly after by a kickflip 50/50.

This looks to be the beginning of a long road of success in the skate street realm for Mariah Duran.
