The 2018 college football season will start soon, but on what date and with which games?
Nearly seven months after the end of the college football season, the 2018 campaign’s hype has finally begun. It’s the prep for the path to the 2019 College Football Playoff, which featured two SEC teams in the championship game: Alabama and Georgia, with the former winning its latest title under head coach Nick Saban.
Who will become the next champion? The Crimson Tide likely stand as the favorite, despite losing Minkah Fitzpatrick and Calvin Ridley to the NFL. They still have a quarterback battle of two talented stars and a top-end defensive front to compete with the best.
Alabama will have competition, however, with Georgia still around, as well as Clemson. These three are the only teams to make the title game since 2016.
Along with these teams, expect the Ohio State Buckeyes to make a run. They have Mike Weber and JK Dobbins returning at running back, as well as defensive end Nick Bosa, but Dwayne Haskins remains an unknown at quarterback. There are high expectations, but will he perform well enough to compete with those that continue to make National Championship games?
Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin continue this Big Ten trend in the spots behind Alabama, Clemson and Georgia. All are expected to rank in the top 10, but will they follow through?
The road to the next title game starts on Thursday, Aug. 30 for high profile matchups. Though, the season actually kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 25, with Colorado State vs. Hawaii and Wyoming vs. New Mexico State among the set head-to-heads.
College football is in for another exciting year of memorable moments, plays, players, moments and games to look back on for years to come. By January, fans will know the next College Football Playoff National Champion. Who reigns supreme?
