CommishRx Fantasy Advice: “Should I Have a Co-commissioner?”

"Our league had co-commissioners last year. The guy who did it with me doesn’t want to do it this year. I feel I can do it myself and I’d like to. Everyone knows there’s only one of us now. So far, no one has said anything and no one has volunteered to take his place. Should I have the league vote on me doing it this year, or should I let it be and continue to prepare us for the season?"
Yes. You should have the league vote on the switch from two commissioners to one. You want this to be an official act.
It seems to me you already know you should have a vote, but don’t really want to, and you don’t want to call attention to the situation. Maybe you think there’s a chance the league will vote against it and you’ll lose your chance to run the league yourself.
That’s a chance you’ll have to take.
Frankly, I get it. I’m not a fan of fantasy co-commissioners. I think they have the potential to create more problems than they solve. I discuss this in detail on my podcast, The Fantasy Commissioner Show.
Also, just because no one has said anything yet doesn’t mean they won’t start complaining in Week 5 that you “took over” the league. That’s a bunch of trouble you don’t need.
Right now, you are the commissioner – you want everything you do to be transparent. Any decision you make should be announced.
I would recommend you don’t take any further official actions as commissioner until you get the vote done. This will be the first step in demonstrating that the league can trust you. Prove you’re the right guy for the job.
Maybe the rest of the league doesn’t care one way or the other. Perhaps no one wants to be commissioner. Having the league vote is the proper way to find out.
Good luck! Let me know how it goes.
