Ranking NFL quarterbacks on their potential cornhole talents
By Conor Dorney
31. Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers
49ers starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is fresh off signing a huge contract extension and appears to be one of the brightest young quarterbacks in the NFL heading in to this season.
But after a recent, highly-publicized dinner date, it’s clear that Garoppolo lacks the laser-focus required to reach the pinnacle of success on the cornhole pitch. Even his head coach, Kyle Shanahan, had what is already one of the best quotes of the offseason when asked about the date:
"As for Shanahan, he isn’t privy to speaking about his players’ personal lives. “I’ve never in my life commented on a player’s date in July, so I’m not going to start today,” he said. “I don’t think it really pertains or matters to us.”"
Not speaking about a player’s date in July is a very, very specific situation that clearly shows Shanahan’s media training savvy. It remains to be seen whether he will comment on, say, a player’s trip to SeaWorld in September or a stadium usher’s steak sandwich in June.
Unless we see Garoppolo taking a cornhole board out to dinner any time soon, let’s be honest… he won’t be able to climb much further up this hallowed list.
