Capitals’ Braden Holtby celebrates his day with the Stanley Cup in style

Find out how Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby spent his day with the Stanley Cup.
Believe it or not, someone other than the Washington Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin has spent some valuable time with Stanley Cup.
Braden Holtby’s turn and his day with the Cup happened on Tuesday, when the 2016 Vezina Trophy winner carried Lord Stanley high above his head in his hometown of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan.
Holtby’s dream of bringing the Stanley Cup back home appeared to have begun at his family’s farm on a bright and cloud free morning where he took photos with family and close friends.
Washington’s masked man was also looking very casual, yet dapper, in his non-Capitals attire when he shifted the party a few towns over to Lashburn.
The 28-year-old continued his day with the Cup inside at his former youth hockey arena in the Lashburn Sportsplex, which is the home to his former squad, the Lashburn Flyers.
Of course, Holtby took a classic team photo with some fellow young Flyers players before signing countless numbers of autographs for other fans who filled the local arena where it all began for No. 70.
According to HockeyReference.com, there have been more than 500 skaters to have played in the NHL originally from the province of Saskatchewan. However, there are only 11 total players that are listed as natives of Lloydminster. The Capitals’ all-star between the pipes happens to be the only goaltender from the town.
It was without a doubt great to see Holtby not only bring the Cup back home but to an area that has more than likely never witnessed an NHL superstar such as “Holts” share that moment with them and at the local rink.
In parts of eight seasons with the Caps, the Lloydminster native has earned 225 career wins and has a career save-percentage of .919-percent.
Though, Washington and his hometown are both hoping that Tuesday isn’t Holtby’s last day with the Cup and that he’ll return as a Stanley Cup champion again, soon.
