Lakers embrace LeBron era with new jerseys
The Los Angeles Lakers are moving into a new era, led by free agent signing LeBron James. Along with a revamped roster, they’ll be sporting some dapper new jerseys.
The Los Angeles Lakers have spent the 2018 offseason completely revamping their franchise, and they’re not done yet. Between signing LeBron James and assembling what is known now as “The Meme Team”, the Lakers have gone from a budding young team to a contender in the Western Conference. So it’s only fitting that the team treated themselves to some new threads too.
On Tuesday morning, the team tweeted out the first images of the new jerseys, which come in the classic white, purple, and gold Laker colorways. Although not too much has changed in comparison to last year’s, the new jerseys mark the beginning of the LABron era.

Surely, Magic Johnson played a huge role in the design as they feature a nod to his Showtime Lakers with a drop shadow design seen around both the player numbers and team name, something those who are just hopping on the Lakers bandwagon might not truly appreciate.
One difference that is completely new for the franchise is the black stripe on the sides of the team’s purple “Statement” uniforms, something that is tough to see at first glance.
So far, their doesn’t seem to be any significance as to why the stripe was added, so it will be interesting to see how Lakers’ fans react to the new twist.

It is yet to be seen whether this team will dominate like the Showtime Lakers the jerseys nod to, or turn into mindless reality television (that I will watch every second of). But no matter what they do on the court, they will look good doing it.
