One breakout candidate for each NFL team in 2018
By Brad Weiss
One of the biggest debates heading into the 2018 NFL Draft was whether or not Lamar Jackson would be drafted in the first round. After a Heisman Trophy winning career at Louisville as their starting quarterback, teams were asking Jackson to move to wide receiver, due to the fact he was one of the more elite athletes in the draft class.
Well, Jackson was drafted in the first round, as the Baltimore Ravens traded back into the first to select him with the final pick of round one. Since putting on the Ravens uniform, Jackson has turned heads with just how good a passer he is, and given the chance, he could be a big-time contributor for the Ravens in 2018.
Starter Joe Flacco has not been good since the team won the Super Bowl in what now seems like a decade ago. In Jackson, they have a guy who not only played in a pro style offense in college, but also a guy who can make things happen with his feet. He could be the boost this offense has been lacking in recent years as they try to overtake the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North.
Flacco will be the starter to begin the season, and Jackson has been worked out in different areas of the offense already this offseason. Still, if Flacco does have another pedestrian season under center, the Ravens know have a legitimate player they can turn to, and one who will be a standout player once he gets his chance.
