When your favorite team trades an unprotected second round pick and their biggest free agent signing from the previous summer for a journeyman whose career high is 8.4 points per game and you consider it a huge win, that’s a sign things haven’t gone super well lately.

But, if you are the Grizzlies, adding Garrett Temple COULD be a big addition. (Not to mention the potential “addition by subtraction” elements of the deal). Acquiring competent, veteran role players for a squad that was sorely lacking them might be enough to get Memphis back in competition for a playoff spot again. And if Jaren Jackson Jr. delivers on some of the promise he showed in NBA Summer League, the Grizzlies could actually make some noise in the loaded Western Conference.

So on a new episode of Fastbreak Breakfast, Jon Roser (@Jon_Roser) of Grind City Media joins to discuss the value of replacing bad players with ok players. He shares his expectations for the upcoming season, who will be the opening night starters, plus his picks for the  best breakfast spots in Memphis.

Also covered:

  • With too many players currently on their roster, would the Grizzlies move on from Andrew Harrison?
  • Has the front office been preparing themselves for Mike Conley not being healthy to start the season?
  • What is the ideal role for Dillon Brooks on a playoff team?
  • How many minutes is Kyle Anderson going to be asked to play?
  • Who should be the next coach of the Memphis Hustle?

Plus a new Game of Scones about Grizzlies players with unimpressive scoring averages.
