Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners have been one of the more pleasant surprises in Major League Baseball this season, as they entered July 31 with a record of 63-43, and only three games back of the Houston Astros in the AL West. They have been getting contributions up and down this lineup, and entered the trade deadline as one two American League Wild Card teams.

While likely not expecting to be in the playoff race entering 2018, here they are, and they made sure they stayed there at the trade deadline. The Mariners added some key pieces to their puzzle before the deadline, and will look to do the impossible, by catching up to, and passing the Astros.

Starting in the outfield, the Mariners brought in a guy from the Miami Marlins that can so many good things on a baseball field. Cameron Maybin was once considered a can’t-miss prospect, and even though he has not had that kind of career in the Majors, he is still someone who can help a team win on any given night.

When it comes to the pitching staff, the Mariners also did a nice job bringing in two relievers that are going to get the job done down the stretch. Seattle traded with the Minnesota Twins for left-hander Zach Duke, and then went out and got Adam Warren from the New York Yankees for cash considerations.

Warren is a proven winner in crunch time, and is going to be a tremendous addition to this bullpen. He gives the bullpen great length, and now that they have their roster settled, the Mariners could go out and shock anyone the rest of the way.
