Fantasy- 32 Teams in 32 Days: The Denver Broncos
By Matt Mikolas
Are the Denver Broncos on the way back up? Let’s check!
Off-Season Overview
Any time a team goes through a major quarterback change, that’s something to stand up and take notice of. Case Keenum will be one of the more intriguing players to watch this year.
Denver went and got an offensive facelift in 2018. The Broncos drafted two wide receivers, which probably signals an upcoming shift from aging Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton both have big opportunities to come in and be immediately productive. Their success will be largely dictated by Case Keenum, who’s out to prove that a 98.3 passer rating 2017 in Minnesota wasn’t a complete fluke.
The Broncos also added a running back, Royce Freeman, through the draft. Expected to immediately challenge DeVontae Booker for touches, don’t be surprised if Freeman ends up coming out of the committee with more touches. His pass protection skills are lacking, but that might be the only thing preventing him from becoming a three-down back.
Defensively, Denver added to what was already a borderline top 10 fantasy defense. Pairing Bradley Chubb with Von Miller will make the Broncos D very attractive in leagues that reward sacks and tackles for loss.
I Gotta Get Me One of Those!
Demaryius Thomas continues to crank out 1,000 yard seasons with multiple touchdowns. Keenum has shown that he can make good on a solid target. See: Adam Thielen. Thomas has been the most consistent for Denver since even back in the Tim Tebow days. He’s a receiver you can count on.
Buyer Beware
Isn’t there just something about players that have burned you before? I’ve felt the sting from Devontae Booker. There’s talk of him being the starter, but I’ve read that book before. I’d be more likely to draft Royce Freeman late than I would ever invest anything in Booker again.
Stay Woke
Jake Butt could be the forgotten man from the 2017 draft. He didn’t play a snap due to injury. He returns healthy this year, and should be the starter immediately in Denver. New quarterback, new system … Tight Ends usually are a nice security blanket for someone like that.
