MLB DFS Picks – Standouts: August 2nd
MLB DFS Picks – Standouts: August 2nd
Tonight’s MLB DFS Picks slate features nine games with, Texas (5.9), Washington (5.1), Boston (5.1), Philadelphia (5), and New York (5), holding the best projected team totals. With high-priced pitchers like, Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw, and Zack Greinke available, finding value will be critical for success tonight. We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, line movement, and stolen base upside.
MLB DFS Picks: Batted Ball Stats
Brandon Crawford – DK $3300, FD $2900
To say that Brandon Crawford has struggled of late, is putting it lightly. Crawford has been abysmal as far as fantasy production is concern, however, his batted ball stats would indicate that he’s been fairly “unlucky”. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 10 feet, his exit velocity has remained the same, and his hard hit percentage is down only 5%, over his yearly average. Crawford was priced well into the mid $4000’s last month, so it may be worth buying low, on a player that should see positive regression.
Batter Splits
Nick Williams – DK $4100, FD $2500
Nick Williams will draw an advantageous matchup tonight, as he faces the righty, Pablo Lopez. Williams is much better against right-handed pitching, with a .351 wOBA split (.034 better than when facing a lefty) and a .224 ISO split (.141 better than when facing a lefty). Williams is a much more viable on FanDuel, as he only costs $2500.
Matt Adams – DK $4400, FD $2900
Matt Adams is another lefty that is in a positive matchup tonight. Adams will face the righty, Tyler Mahle. Adams is much better against right-handed pitching, with a .378 wOBA split (.097 better than when facing a lefty) and a .281 ISO split (.138 better than when facing a lefty).
Line Movement
Washington Batters
Washington will host the visiting Cincinnati Reds, in a game in which the Nationals opened as -280 favorites. There hasn’t been significant movement on the side, but that’s not the same case for the total. The game total opened at 7.5 runs, but is now up a half of a run, to 8. As mentioned, the Nationals will face Tyler Mahle, who has really struggled in his last three appearances. His recent batted ball stats confirm his struggles, as his opposing batted ball distance is up 14 feet, his exit velocity is up 3 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 12%, over his yearly average. It should also be noted the wind looks like it will be blowing out to left center field, at around 12 MPH.
Stolen Base Upside
Atlanta Runners
There aren’t any standout matchups from a base running perceptive tonight, but one to consider, would be Atlanta base runners against the lefty, Jason Vargas. While he is a lefty, he has allowed four stolen bases over just 42 innings pitched. This could benefit batters like Ender Inciarte, who has stolen 23 bases this year, tied for 7th most.
