5 MLB teams who can (and should) still make trade moves
3. San Francisco Giants
The Giants are back in contention, for well, just about everything. However at the most important point in the season, three major players are on the 10-day DL and may be there even longer. They are Cuteo, Belt, and Samardzija.
This is the time to make a move now to not lose ground.
There were grumblings of them going after the Reds Matt Harvey to solidify that starting rotation, and it was a bit surprising that it did not happen. We also heard talks of maybe an infielder or an outfielder coming over to reverse the downward spiral that is the Giants bats. (They sit 20th in HR, 7th in strikeouts, and 23rd in runs.)
It seems difficult to make a strong playoff run with almost the rest of the league having more runs and HR than you, when you sit in a hitter’s park.
There were several players that could change to the west coast version of orange and black and they still might:
1. Matt Harvey (SP): He was linked to the Giants during the final days of the deadline and the once proud Harvey could realistically sit second in the rotation with Cuteo and Samardzija sidelined.
2. Eddie Rosario (OF): Boom, that’s a big name. Yes, Rosario the scorching hot 26-year-old blasting 19 HR, 64 RBI and just shy of a .300 avg. This awesome outfielder would be great in that park with hit bat and speed. The Twins sold off Dozier, so this could also happen. The Twins are going no where fast, and the Giants have some nice youth just waiting to explode. Rosario in that park should make 20/20 seasons easy.
3. Dylan Bundy (SP): The Orioles are in full rebuild mode, and Bundy is a player they don’t need. Sitting at the young age of 25, he already has the talent of a top-end starter. Based on what they asked for, for Schoop and Machado, both of whom command more this should be an easy swap.
If the Giants do pull those moves off a nice spot in the wild card game seems like an easy bet to make, and possibly a shot at the NLCS. The Giants could be set up for another hot four-to-five year run, where as the D-Backs and Dodgers are hot now, but face many contract questions in the coming months and years.
