A Walk to Remember

Nicholas Sparks must have the best pick-up game in all of the worlds because everything he writes turns into a movie that turns into the most romantic, heartbreaking, sweet story of a generation. And one of his earlier flicks — A Walk to Remember — is no different.

Though this could not be more cliche… I still absolutely love this movie.

It follows a jaded, aimless high school senior, Landon (Shane West) who is forced to befriend the minister’s goody-two-shoes daughter, Jamie (Mandy Moore), after a night of troublemaking left him teetering on the edge of not graduating high school. Like a typical high school rom-com, his friends think she isn’t “cool enough” and plot to humiliate her. He, of course, falls in love with her despite his friends making fun of her and trying to break them apart and even makes the grand gesture of ditching them in favor of her. The two develop a powerful and inspirational relationship after it’s revealed that Jamie is slowly dying of cancer.

I mean, it’s a Nicholas Sparks movie, what do you expect?

The entire film took 39 days to film from start to finish, due in part to Moore being underage at the time (and yes, she sings in the movie). The film shared the same set as the hit TV show Dawson’s Creek — including the school, Landon’s home, and the hospital.

Fun Fact: The inspiration for Jamie Sullivan’s character and some of the events in the book/movie are from Nicholas Sparks’ sister, Danielle Sparks Lewis (whom the book and movie are dedicated to).
