MLB DFS Picks – Standouts: August 6th
Tonight’s MLB DFS Picks slate features 10 games with, Seattle (5.8), Colorado (5.7), New York (5.5), Texas (5.3), and Chicago (5.3), holding the best projected team totals. With high-priced pitchers like, Trevor Bauer, Charlie Morton, and Noah Syndergaard available, finding value will be critical for success tonight. We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, line movement, and stolen base upside.
MLB DFS Picks: Batted Ball Stats
Kyle Seager – DK $3800, FD $2600
Kyle Seager will make an excellent value play on DraftKings tonight, as he only costs $3800. This is a fairly cheap price considering how well he’s been hitting the ball of late, and the Mariners’ projected team total. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 10 feet, his exit velocity is up 2 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 10%, over his yearly average.
Batter Splits
Edwin Encarnacion – DK $4300, FD $3700
Edwin Encarnacion will draw an advantageous matchup against the righty, Kyle Gibson. Encarnacion holds reverse splits and is much better against right-handed pitching, with a .372 wOBA split (.034 better than when facing a lefty) and a .283 ISO split (.083 better than when facing a lefty). There has already been some significant movement on both the side, and total, for this game, which could be a good indicator for Encarnacion.
Robinson Chirinos – DK $4400, FD $2900
Robinson Chirinos is another righty in a positive matchup tonight. Chirinos will face the lefty, Wade LeBlanc. Chirinos is much better against left-handed pitching, with a .442 ISO split (.097 better than when facing a righty) and a .302 ISO split (.087 better than when facing a righty).
Line Movement
Seattle and Texas Batters
Texas will host the visiting Seattle Mariners in a game in which Seattle is a slight, -113 favorite. There hasn’t been much movement on the side, however, the game total is a different story. The total opened at 10.5 runs, but has since moved to a juiced, 11 runs. I wouldn’t be surprised if this number continued to climb out to 11.5. Wade LeBlanc had one of his worst outings of the year last week, as he allowed seven earned runs, on 10 hits. His opposing batted ball stats would indicate that he has hit a rough patch, and perhaps some sharp money tends to agree.
Stolen Base Upside
Whit Merrifield – DK $4900, FD $3400
Whit Merrifield will draw a juicy matchup on the base paths tonight, as he faces the lefty, Cole Hamels. Although he is a lefty, Hamels has struggled to keep runners from stealing. He’s surrendered 15 stolen bases, over the course of 119.1 innings this year. This should benefit Merrifield, who has stolen 25 bases this year, tied for fourth most.
Cincinnati Runners
Cincinnati runners will also be worth considering tonight, as they face Noah Syndergaard. Syndergaard has really struggled against base stealers this year, allowing 17 stolen bases, over the course of 81.2 innings. This should benefit runners like Billy Hamilton and Jose Peraza.
