DraftKings Early MLB Picks August 7: MadBum is money by the Bay
There are two early games on our Tuesday thanks to a doubleheader between the Braves and Nationals and a matinee getaway game in San Francisco. The options are slim across the board, and you really have to do something to separate yourself from the pack. Of course, these huge risks could just as easily land you at the bottom of the pack.

There is no rain for the afternoon, and just the customary wind out to center in San Francisco, so at least the weather is tame where the slate wont be.
We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!
These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. We have plenty of writers on here who give you relevant information no matter which site you play on!

Top Tier:
Madison Bumgarner ($9,300): Many will roll with MadBum because of all of the injuries that Houston is dealing with. There is another reason, of course. Bumgarner has been his dominant self at home. He has a 2.01 ERA in six home starts this year. The healthy Astros don’t have much history against him, but they have struck out eight times in 24 at bats with only six hits.
Dallas Keuchel ($8,400): Keuchel is worth a look against the struggling Giants. He has also pitched much better on the road this year. The park upgrade is pretty significant here, but the Giants do have some pesky and relatively cheap right handed bats. I don’t expect a huge game from Keuchel, but he is the more stable of the three options behind MadBum. The current Giants are only hitting .237 off of him in 38 at bats, but they do have five runs and only eight strikeouts. That said, with the way this offense is going, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Keuchel outscored all pitchers this afternoon.
Middle Tier:
Max Fried ($7,100): With only four pitchers to choose from, it makes this slate really difficult. Not surprisingly, Fried has been much better at home since he neutralizes lefties. The Nats have enough right handed power to make him pay. The only thing we know for sure is that Fried wont go deep in the game and he will flirt with double digit strikeouts. On this slate, that’s enough. He may have the most strikeout upside of anyone on this slate.
Bargain Pitchers:
Jefry Rodgriguez ($4,800): Well, there are only four pitchers, so everyone gets their name in print. Rodriguez is a big no for me. The 6.86 ERA is enough of a turnoff. The 8.10 ERA in two home starts is just at bad. Now the good news: Rodriguez made his debut on June 3rd in Atlanta. He held the Braves scoreless in 4.2 innings. If you have brass balls and stock in Rolaids, you may end up making some serious change here. Or you will wind up at the bottom. There is no in between.
Top Tier:
I’m not really wild about Harper here, but Juan Soto has hit lefties well enough to take a chance. However, I will concentrate most of my energy on Rendon, Zimmerman, and Mark Reynolds if he is in the lineup. Just be aware that Fried has only allowed three homers in 26.2 innings this year, so I wouldn’t go too crazy.
I’m all over Freddie Freeman, Ozzie Albies, and Nick Markakis today. There will be quite a few people that roll with Jefry just because of what he did in Atlanta. Well, Rodriguez has made three starts since then. He has 13.5 DraftKings points in that span. He has 12.9 in his debut in Atlanta.

Middle Tier:
I’m not sure where I land on stacking Braves, but I have a feeling that Rodriguez is going to get hit pretty hard. Johan Camargo and Ender Inciarte look reasonably priced to me here.
The Giants outfield is loaded with pretty good options, first and foremost being Andrew McCutchen. Hunter Pence has the only homer off of Keuchel, and is worth a look here as well.
Bargain Shoppers:
To me, Yuli Gurriel is too cheap to be in this tier, even against MadBum.
There isn’t much in this tier, but Dansby Swanson has a modest two game hitting streak going. Hey, that’s a big deal! He has had a rough go of it since the break, and may finally be starting to get back on track.
