4. Revamped secondary

Last year, the Browns actually had the 16th-best defense in football per FootballOutsiders DVOA which goes to show just how bad their offense was.

So, the additions of Denzel Ward and Demarious Randall to their secondary fixes the biggest problem on that defense. They were 26th-best against the pass despite having the 17th most sacks and second best defensive line in football. The issue was clearly in the secondary and they wen tout and addressed that.

Trading DeShone Kizer, who meant nothing to them with Baker Mayfield and Tyrod Taylor in the fold for DeMarious Randall was genius. Randall will now get to play in his preferred role of free safety, letting Jabrill Peppers attack. Letting Peppers come up and make tackles will also improve the run defense.

Ward on the other hand gives the Browns a chance at a true No. 1 corner. Despite maybe being overdrafted, he was still the best cornerback in the draft. His speed and athleticism gives him the ability to stay with any receiver in the league. If he can take away a receiver from the other team, that makes the job of the rest of the defense easier.

Better coverage along the back end will give guys like Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah more time to pressure the quarterback. These two additions to the secondary, along with a more experienced Peppers could result is a strong Browns defense.
