1. A GM ready to win

John Dorsey came to the Browns ready to make things happen. There would be no more Sashi Brown style building for the future and preparing for one big day. He used their draft capital to acquire ready, NFL players like Landry and Taylor.

Dorsey didn’t spend all of draft day trading down, continuing to prepare for the future. He didn’t shy away from big contracts, dishing one out to Jarvis Landry after trading for him.

While it was Sashi Brown’s accumulation of draft capital and salary cap savings that enabled Dorsey to do it, he took the initiative to make it happen. Whether or not Brown would have done the same thing this year is unknown, but Dorsey deserves credit for it.

These moves told the world that the Browns were going for it this year. A year in which the only clearly dominant team in their division is the Steelers, and the Patriots are the only other sure thing in the AFC. Nobody knows how Patrick Mahomes will turn out in Kansas City, or Jon Gruden in Oakland. This year is set up perfectly for the Browns to be able to make something happen.

With Dorsey at the helm, we know that if they have a glaring weakness, he will go out and fix it. The Dawg Pound doesn’t have to worry about a GM sitting back and being content with their roster. He’s shown that he will be going after players. That mentality could drive this team to the playoffs.
