New York Islanders: John Tavares

Alright New York Islanders fans, we’re going to hurt you for a minute but you’ll simply have to bear through.

John Tavares is a great name. It sounds so easy with a hint of class (well, you might be thinking different at this point), it’s the name of an excellent ‘70s musical group and it gives us the chance to make wonderfully related puns while stepping away from all these dudes who can’t help but knock each other’s teeth out.

Unfortunately, while Tavares has made a name for himself as one of the best players around, he may have sullied that a bit when he spurned his thought-to-be forever home in New York for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He even included a photo to commemorate the torture. Aw.

We say sullied because the decision really only takes a minute, but he decided to drag it out. And I mean For-ev-er. The Islanders must feel like the fool of the year, as fans now burn his jersey thinking about the angel they’ll clearly be missing for the next eight seasons. But hey, you were one step away. It just didn’t happen.

For the record Isles fans, we still love you. That’s why we’re setting you up with 10 minutes of Tavares highlights to give you the feels. Or will that make you even angrier? Oh. Well, here you go!

Honorable mentions: Sebastian Aho, Sven Butenschoen, Johnny Boychuk, Ruslan Fedotenko, Mike Bossy, Grigori Panteleev, Justin Mapletoft, P.A. Parenteau (this guy has played for every team I think), Rich Pilon (not the name you want as a defenseman), and Gilles Thibaudeau
