The Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions will kick off their 2018 preseason schedules inside the Oakland Coliseum Friday night.

For the past couple of days, the Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions have been battling it out on the practice field in Napa, California. On Friday night, they will actually flip the lights on at the Oakland Coliseum for each team’s first preseason game, and it is going to be a good one.

There have been some spirited fights during the two days these teams practiced against each other, so that should be enough fuel for each to come out swinging on Friday. In addition, both rosters have players who enter Week 1 of the preseason on the bubble, so that will bring even more intrigue to the matchup.

Both of these franchises missed out on the playoffs last season, and while Detroit barely missed, the Raiders took a major step back from their 12-win season in 2016. They fired the whole coaching staff after the season, bringing back Jon Gruden as the new head coach, so it will be interesting to see how he does in his first NFL game since the 2008 season.

The Lions also have a new head coach in Matt Patricia, who has spent the last 13 years winning AFC East titles with the New England Patriots as their defensive coordinator. We know what this Lions offense can do, so the hope for Lions fans is Patricia can bring this defense up to par in 2018.

Here is the information for the game on Friday night.

Date: Friday, Aug. 10
Time: 10:30 p.m. ET
Location: Oakland, California
Venue: Oakland Coliseum
TV Info: NFL Network and NFL Game Pass
Live Stream: NFL Game PassFuboTV

The game will be broadcast live on the NFL Network, and will be aired after the Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets game.

Next: Lamar Jackson clearly a work in progress

While they will likely only play the first quarter, both quarterbacks are fun to watch, and they should air it out a bit before turning the ball over to the backups. Matthew Stafford and Derek Carr are two of the better young quarterbacks in the game, so it is a great matchup to kick off the 2018 preseason schedule for NFL fans.
