5 NFL rookies with major fantasy value
1. Baker Mayfield, QB, Cleveland Browns
ADP: Undrafted
While it’s easy to expect to see Tyrod Taylor as the starting quarterback for the Browns heading into the regular season, Baker Mayfield made his case for that job in Week 1 of the preseason.
Here, I did a complete breakdown of his first career outing.
Spoiler alert: It was quite incredible.
If Mayfield can carry that type of game over to a full 60-minute game on a weekly basis, Mayfield is a fantasy quarterback that needs to be rostered.
He’ll also elevate the value of everyone around him.
Mayfield’s running ability also helps his fantasy value, too.
Remember, 40 yards rushing is equal to one passing touchdown (assuming your league give four points per touchdown pass).
Let’s play the hypothetical game here. Assuming Mayfield starts and plays all 16 games this season for the Browns, he would my personal QB15-17 in that range.
While that may not be week-to-week starter material, there’s going to be a number of streamable games in there as well as.
For example, the Detroit Lions and Houston Texans both have a Week 7 bye.
In Week 7, Mayfield and the Browns will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tampa and that beautiful Florida weather.
So, in this scenario, pairing Mayfield with Deshaun Watson or Matthew Stafford could be a good idea.
Like Josh Allen and Antonio Callaway, continue to wait and see.
I sense plenty of Mayfield-Callaway DraftKings and FanDuel stacks in the future.
