5. Rashaad Penny, Seattle Seahawks

There weren’t many draft experts who saw Rashaad Penny as a first round pick. Especially when you factor in some of the running backs he was picked before. Never the less, Penny’s draft status means he’s going to get early action with the Seattle Seahawks.

Penny is a powerful runner who can grind out the tough yards. He features good vision that is accompanied by some patience.

His ability to contribute in the passing game is a bit limited, but he will be a good check-down option. The biggest concern is that he doesn’t show elite quickness and speed. Penny projects more as someone who can wear down a defense.

The situation with the Seahawks is a bit of an issue. Their offensive line is a work in progress and has recently struggled to get movement off the line.

There is some hope for progression with youngsters like Ethan Pocic, Justin Britt and Germain Ifedi. They each have a strong pedigree but have failed to meet expectations. Seattle is hoping this trio finally takes a step forward.

Penny won’t be the team’s bell-cow back as Chris Carson and Mike Davis figure to see touches. In fact, Carson showed enough last year that he could potentially seize the bulk of the carries.
