Welcome to this edition of PGA DFS Golf Fanduel Targets from FantasyCPR.com. Here you will find players to target for this weekend’s action, geared for cash games and tournament plays on Fanduel.

In this article, I will present to you some players to consider from each price tier for your PGA DFS action. Some plays will be geared toward cash games, and some for GPP. Some of course will also technically qualify as both. As we break each play down, I will be sure to specify which type of contests I am targeting that player in. I will give two players to target from the $11K-$13K, two targets from the $9K-$11K range, and two from the $8-9K range. Also don’t forget about those Bonus GPP Flyers at the very end.

About the Event:

The Wyndham Championship is an annual event that takes place at the same course every year, which is change of pace from what the last couple of weeks have been. While our field is back to being pretty thin talent wise, at least we can get a read on some course history here with the large sample size. The Wyndham is held at Sedgefield CC in Greensboro, NC. It is an 80-year-old event, and has been played on this course since 2008.

Sedgefield is not a relatively tough course, as winning scores here can often break -20. It is fairly short at 7127 yards and plays at par 70. We don’t necessarily need to target the long ball hitters in this one, as driving accuracy and the ability to hit fairways will reign supreme here at Sedgefield. The course features four scoreable Par 3’s, so proximity at that range will be a key stat. The most important stat that though for those who rely on them, will be approach, as this is where most strokes are gained here historically.

Event History:

So going back to 2008 we have plenty of history to look at, and it is always nice to have something to compare with recent form. First guy that comes to mind here for an example of this is Bill Haas. He has played here every year since 2008, and has certainly had some success. His best finish was 2014 when he T-2, and he has shot just four rounds over par here in his last 33 rounds. However, he has been playing awful as of late, missing four out of his last five cuts and MDF at the John Deere Classic. I am steering clear of Haas because he has not been playing well, but I am sure he will be talked up as a top play this week because of his history.

On the flip side, tournament favorite and 2011 champion Webb SImpson is another player who tends to play extremely well here. What makes Simpson the favorite though is the fact that he comes into his favorite tournament in fantastic form. He has made four cuts in a row, and snuck into the top 20 last weekend with a T-19 at the PGA Championship. On a side note for narrative street, thanks to the numberfire podcast, I was made aware that Simpson actually named his daughter Wyndham. That was back in 2012 after he won here, but narrative’s in golf are tough to find!

Moving on, other past event champions that will be in the field this week all seem to be having something in common. I am not really on any of them. I guess I will start with the easy one… Sergio Garcia. Garcia won here in 2012, posting a -18, and holding off Tim Clark by two strokes. He has made just one cut in his last six tournaments, and while he is a household name, I would steer clear of him this week until he can right the ship. The other past champions I am not likely to play will be last years champ Henrik Stenson, and 2009 champ Ryan Moore, who is also looking like a favorite. Stenson still does not appear to be 100% after missing the cut last weekend, and while Moore is consistent, I cannot pay over $11K for him.

It will be an interesting week as there will be a lot of different ways to go. I think there are only really two top chalk plays here, and both will be talked about here in the targets. Simpson with the narrative and the course history is my favorite here, and he is my pick to win it this week, in what the casual fan will view as a “boring” week compared to last weeks excitement.

PGA DFS Golf Top Tier Targets: ($11,000 – $13,000)

Webb Simpson – $12,200 – (Cash)

It is simple really. Simpson checks every box this week, and that is pretty rare. I talked a lot about him above, and he should be the lock of the week for a top 10 here, considering the field he is up against. In cash games I wouldn’t fade him, although you may hear a balanced approach may be the way to go this week. I will disagree with that 100%, as there are two cash viable plays under $9500 in my opinion. We will get to that later, but SImpson is in good form and plays this course well, as it is basically his home field advantage,

Daniel Berger – $11,300 – (GPP)

When I look at this a bit more, Berger may be the cash play for those playing balanced, but for my approach this week, Berger will likely be a part of my core of players I build around for GPP. After the top three expensive golfers in Simpson, Stenson, and Hideki Matsuyama, we have a pretty balanced group on golfers in the $11K-11.8K range. I think more people will be on Rafa Cabrera-Bello here than Berger, and both should be good plays. However, Berger gets the slight advantage here due to his stats. He is coming off a top 15 at the PGA Championship, and has made the cut in four of his last five events.

PGA DFS Golf: Mid Tier Targets: ($9,000 – $11,000)

Russell Henley – $10,700 – (Cash/GPP)

Henley had a nice run starting around the end of May and running through early July, in which he made five straight cuts, with three of those being top 25 finishes. This stretch also included back-to-back top 10’s, when Henley T-6 at the Travelers, and finished a solo 10th at the Greenbrier. He missed the cut at the Open, and squeaked in the cut last week at the PGA Championship. While he only finished T-50 it was good to see him at least overcome a dismal first round in which he shot +4. Henley is another guy that the stats line up for here, as he is among the best in the field at driving accuracy and approach strokes gained. He is another core piece for me, as I think the price is just right on him, considering what else is there in that range.

Harold Varner – $9,300 – (Cash)

My last core piece of my plays this week will be Varner, as I will likely have over 60% ownership of him across all sites I play on when it is all said and done. If you follow this guy at all, it will be a joy just to see him in action again, as he didn’t quite make the field for the PGA Championship last week. Varner is running hot, with three straight top 20’s, including two top 10’s, and is likely to be a very popular play here at this discounted price. I would hate to admit it, but it almost feels like Varner should be around $10,000 considering the field and his recent play. He finished 10th here last year, and coupled with his form, I think he can easily top 10 here again. He will be probably be chalk, but I am eating it regardless if he is or not.

PGA DFS Golf Low Tier Targets: ($8,000 – $9,000)

Johnson Wagner – $8,800 – (GPP)

Wagner comes into Sedgefield playing some pretty consistent golf, and below $9K, this is the type of player I look to target. The most important thing we will need to accomplish this week is getting our players to play all four rounds. Not only do we cut down to 70 after two rounds like normal, there is also a second cut after the third round for those who made the cut on the bubble. This means consistency is key.

More from FanSided

Wagner has made five cuts in a row, and finshed no worse than T-31st in four straight. He also has played well here, with his most recent finishes being a T-24 and a T-5. He is great source of salary relief in my opinion this week and will be a core GPP play for me.

Jason Kokrak – $8,600 – (Cash)

Our last cash target this week will be the always up and down Jason Kokrak. This guy is a known bomber, but his approach game and scrambling is also well above average for this field. Another player with some success in this event, Kokrak finshed 17th here last year. He has been fantastic as of late as well, with two straight top 20’s, including a T-19th last weekend at the PGA Championship. Other than his rough outing and missed cut at the Open Championship, Kokrak has been great of three of four as a matter of fact. Before the Open, he T-3 at the Greenbrier. It’s been a good run for the most part for Kokrak as of late, and he will be the key for me to fit Simpson in my cash lineup.

***Bonus GPP Flyers – Tyler Duncan $8,600, Sam Ryder $8,600, Whee Kim $7,900***
