Fantasy Football 2018: Ranking the top 50 running backs
By Jon Dove
The running back position continues to be the most important position when it comes to the fantasy football world.
This year will follow in line with the running back position dominating the early parts of your fantasy football draft. There are a lot of drafts where the first four picks could all be running backs. In fact, this mock draft done by ESPN has four running backs in the first five picks.
Most rankings have Todd Gurley, David Johnson, Le’Veon Bell and Ezekiel Elliott at the top. These four are versatile backs who produce fantasy points as both runners and receivers.
There is also plenty of talent after the top four and finding that one sleeper pick could be the difference between a fantasy championship or getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs. This article ranks the top-50 running backs while you can find a few key players to watch below.
Deep Sleeper- DeAndre Washington of the Oakland Raiders doesn’t show up in my top-50 rankings, but there’s plenty of upside here. He’s currently behind Marshawn Lynch, Doug Martin and Jalen Richard on the depth chart.

However, Lynch doesn’t have much left in the tank while Martin hasn’t produced in years. Richard is more of a change of pace back. This leaves some room for Washington to work his way into the rotation.
Biggest risk – Le’Veon Bell and the Pittsburgh Steelers are not on great terms thanks to an ugly contract situation. Bell strikes me as a competitor, but it has to be difficult for him to suit up each week for a team that doesn’t appreciate his talents.
Biggest injury concern – Leonard Fournette has dealt with injuries the past two seasons. They were more of the nagging variety, but caused him to miss some action. Fournette is going to be some fantasy owners first pick and any time that player misses time it hurts.
Safest pick – Todd Gurley was a monster last year and doesn’t appear to be slowing down. The Rams have a great offensive attack that works to get Gurley involved.
