Goaltending

Starter-Semyon Varlamov

Backup-Philipp Grubauer

The two goaltenders will be Semyon Varlamov and Philipp Grubauer. The Avalanche need good work from both of these goalies.

It’s no question that Varlamov should be the starting goaltender given his abilities and experience. He is becoming an elite goalie at the NHL level.

Colorado will be using him a lot this season. It will all depend on if Varlamov can stay healthy. Injuries have plagued him for the last few seasons.

Grubauer, who came over this offseason from Washington, is a new face to the fans. But he has good numbers and will make a good backup. The Avalanche hope he will be strong enough to help them win.

The Avalanche hope use Varlamov at least every two or three games, since they want to make sure he stays healthy the whole season.
