Triple Threat Match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship

Carmella (c) vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair

It didn’t quite seem necessary to add Charlotte Flair to this match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, but I get it. She’s one of the biggest names in the division and shouldn’t be left off the SummerSlam card, and her presence obviously makes this a better bout from a pure wrestling point of view. But she certainly won’t be the focal point in this one, and she shouldn’t be. This is Becky Lynch’s time, and the Brooklyn crowd is likely to be extremely loud for her here.

It’s been close to two years since Becky Lynch won the inaugural SmackDown Women’s Championship match before dropping the belt to Alexa Bliss in December 2016. Since then, she hasn’t really been in the spotlight, which has been a shame. But she’s having an amazing summer and has racked up some big wins over the last couple of months, including a clean win over Carmella to get her this opportunity, which is how Charlotte got into this match as well.

Prediction: I’ll be the first to admit that this Carmella title reign has been better than I thought it would be, but it’s still not been overly spectacular. Her in-ring work, while better than it was two years ago, still isn’t as strong as the majority of the women on the WWE roster, but her character is entertaining and she plays it well. That said, it’s time for this to come to an end, and it’s time for Becky Lynch to win on the big stage, and I think that’s what happens here.
