MLB DFS Picks – Standouts: August 20th

Tonight’s MLB DFS Picks slate features 10 games with, Minnesota (5.4), Milwaukee (5.4), Toronto (5.2), and Oakland (5), holding the best projected team totals. With high-priced pitchers like, Gerrit Cole and Corey Kluber available, finding value will be critical for success tonight. We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, line movement, and stolen base upside.

MLB DFS Picks: Batted Ball Stats

Travis Shaw – DK $4700, FD $3700

Milwaukee will host the Cincinnati Reds, in a game in which the Brewers hold a projected team total of 5.4 runs. This is one of the highest team totals on the slate, and this could benefit Travis Shaw, who has been hitting the ball extremely well of late. You may not be able to tell so by looking at his fantasy production, but over the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 20 feet, his exit velocity is up 2 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 4%, over his yearly average.

Batter Splits

Justin Turner – DK $4500, FD $4000

Justin Turner will draw an attractive matchup tonight, as he faces the lefty, Austin Gomber. Turner is much better against right-handed pitching, with a .426 wOBA split (.069 better than when facing a lefty) and a .240 ISO split (.059 better than when facing a lefty). The Dodgers have seen some significant betting action, as the moneyline has moved nearly a full 25 cents in their direction, and Turner could stand to benefit.

More from FanSided

Matt Olson – DK $4100, FD $3300

Matt Olson will also draw an advantageous matchup tonight, as he faces the righty, Bartolo Colon. Olson is much better against righties, with a .387 wOBA split (.066 better than when facing a lefty) and a .310 ISO split (.143 better than when facing a lefty). Olson has significantly more value on FanDuel as he only costs, $3300.

Line Movement

Chris Archer – DK $7800, FD $7900

Pittsburgh will host the visiting Atlanta Braves tonight, in a game in which the Pirates opened as -113 favorites. Since opening the line has moved towards the Pirates and now sits at -125. In addition to the movement on the side, the total has also changed. The game total opened at a juiced 8 runs, and now sits at 7.5 runs. This could be a good sign for Chris Archer, who has struggled of late. Although his fantasy numbers have been down in recent weeks, Archer’s recent batted ball profile has remained fairly unchanged from his yearly averages. I would expect Archer to see some positive regression tonight, and this would be a good buying opportunity as his priced has dropped on both sites.

Stolen Base Upside

Minnesota Runners

Minnesota runners will have one of the best matchups on the base paths tonight, as they face the righty Lucas Giolito. Giolito has been susceptible to stolen bases this season, allowing 21 stolen bases over the course of 131.2 innings pitched. This will provide additional upside to runners like Jorge Polanco, and Eddie Rosario.
