21. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Admittedly, this is a speculative ranking. Mahomes only has one NFL start to his name. Even so, there’s a lot of reason for optimism in Kansas City.

Mahomes is inheriting an offense that might have the best group of skill position players in the NFL. That means he isn’t going to have to make a ton of special throws to make this offense click. Instead, he’ll need to focus on making the right reads and delivering the football on time.

The tutelage of Andy Reid has an excellent track record in that regard. There’s also the obvious fact that Mahomes has exceptional arm strength. He may not throw the ball to the right receiver every play, but he can get the ball there in a hurry. There are zero questions about whether or not Mahomes can make every throw in the Chiefs’ playbook.

As a talented young quarterback, he’s going to have days where he looks like  Pro Bowler and Sundays where he looks like he should be playing in the CFL. Expect the good days to outnumber the bad ones for Mahomes this season. By the end of the season he may be playing like a top 10 quarterback. That high ceiling is enough to get him up to No. 21 on this list ahead of a number of more established, safer, signal callers.
