6. Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers

One of the most underrated parts of Rivers’ game is his durability. The last time he missed a game for the Chargers was all the way back in 2005. Each season since then he’s played 16 games or more for the only franchise he’s ever called home.

Rivers quietly bounced back from a mediocre 2016 campaign to have a really nice 2017 season. He threw for over 4,500 yards on the season and he’s still pushing the ball down the field. A yards per completion average of 7.9 proves he isn’t just throwing passes out into the flat to pad his stats.

The key for Rivers is to be smart with the football. He’s been plagued by interceptions during several seasons of his career. Part of that is a result of being asked to do too much by his coaches. Some of it is just plain overconfidence by Rivers in his own arm strength.

At 36-years-old, his game should start declining soon. We haven’t seen evidence of his age yet though. He still looks really good spinning the football from the pocket. Speed and mobility have never been a part of his game so he has nothing to lose there. In the end, expect Rivers to put up another season with close to 30 touchdowns and over 4,000 yards. When that’s your baseline, you’re very close to a top five quarterback in the NFL. That’s why Rivers comes in at No. 6.
