WWE Universal Championship Match

Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns

What we learned: I thought we were going to learn that Goldberg isn’t the only one who can take out Brock Lesnar in 90 seconds. Also, we learned that Lesnar can throw a briefcase really far.

Backing up to the start of things, I really enjoyed how they handled the Braun Strowman thing and honestly thought we were going to get a Triple Threat Match there for a minute, which would have thrown everyone for a loop. But Braun was just out there to remind everyone that he’s a babyface and wouldn’t be going for the cheap cash-in, even if it would have essentially been the same thing after these two beat the hell out of each other. But we can let that slide.

That start really did throw me off as I thought that Reigns was just going to squash Lesnar — it was one of the big themes of the night — but Lesnar fought back and threw in his normal array of offense before turning his attention to Strowman, which was so beautifully done. He did chuck that briefcase an awfully long way, didn’t he? But it cost him in the end as Roman took advantage and finally got the win we’ve been waiting for.

What’s next: So where do we go from here? It’s highly unlikely that Lesnar will be sticking around for his automatic rematch and will probably be gone for a while to focus on his UFC return. There’s been no word yet on how that supposed closed-door meeting with the brass went prior to the show, but they went ahead and set up a Strowman-Lesnar showdown for the future just in case. WrestleMania 35 seems like a good spot for that. But in the meantime, it seems as if a Strowman-Roman (yep, had to go with the rhyme there) showdown is imminent. The big red belt will finally be back on Monday nights on a regular basis, and it’s going to be very interesting to see how that impacts everyone on RAW moving forward.
