Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin

What we learned: So we learned here that Finn Balor won’t put on The Demon paint and gear for an Intercontinental Championship match with Seth Rollins and The Miz at WrestleMania but will go through all of that to battle Constable Baron Corbin in rubber match that nobody wanted to see at SummerSlam. Okay then.

At least if nobody really wanted to see this match, they went ahead and went with another squash as Balor decimated the frightened Corbin in about 90 seconds. It certainly doesn’t do Corbin any favors, but with his new role of power, he’ll come out okay in this. He’s never going to be the big star that some people still think he’s going to be, but at least he looks spiffy in that new ring gear … you know, the one that looks like he’s a bartender at a somewhat-classy establishment.

The crowd was into the whole Demon thing as the entrance and exit took about four times longer than the actual match. So at least there was that.

What’s next: Hopefully this whole thing between Finn Balor and Baron Corbin can finally be put to rest. Corbin will find someone else to pick on as Constable — it should be fun watching Kurt Angle make fun of him getting destroyed — but now Balor needs to find a new program as well. With the Intercontinental Championship picture kind of locked up right now — I still think that’s where he needs to be — maybe it’s time that he finally takes that run at the Universal Championship that he never lost. But that might get tricky as well with Strowman waiting with that briefcase. And if they’re looking for people to start cheering Roman, putting him in there with Balor might not be such a good idea right now.
