Boxing welterweight division rankings: Spence, Crawford top stacked weight class
3. Keith Thurman (28-0, 22 KOs)
Thurman has the best resume (at welterweight) of anyone on this list, so it may seem a little odd to see him only at No. 3. However, between being inactive for over a year, having no fight scheduled and being the underdog (in my eyes at least) against the two guys ahead of him, I can not rank him any higher.
Thurman has been plagued by inactivity as of late, and it is really hurting his career. He has wins over the sixth and fourth-ranked fighters on this list, but he is almost never discussed among boxing fans. He fought once in 2016, once in March of 2017, and has not fought since.
It really is a shame, because he was a unified champion, and has all of the talent in the world.
Thurman has wins over Diego Chavez, Jesus Soto Karass, Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia, among others. Not only does he have good wins, he has looked very good and passed the eye test in his previous fights.
Hopefully he is able to come back later this year, because there are some great fights to make. He could rematch the winner of Garcia-Porter, or he could look to make a big fight with Spence. I for one prefer the fight with Spence, as we already saw Thurman fight Danny and Porter.
