Vince Carter wrecking rims in high school is something you need to see
Already known as one of the NBA’s most explosive dunkers in history, take time out to watch Vince Carter in high school showing off his explosive ability to power home dunks.
When Vince Carter made his debut for the Toronto Raptors in 1998, he was ballyhooed as the next coming to Michael Jordan. With the same measurables and college program to match, Carter more-than lived up to the billing as the next Joran-in terms of explosive ability. But below, check out some footage of the newly-acquired Atlanta Hawk in high school showing off with some fantastic dunks. It’s arguable that Carter could have won an NBA dunk contest as a teenager.
While Carter’s leaping ability may not be what it once was, he still has enough spring in his legs to continue to play basketball at the age of 41. Last season for the Sacramento Kings, Carter only averaged 5.4 points per game but gave the Kings just under 18 minutes per game. But interestingly enough, Carter’s inspiration to continue to play, though? Not to chasing championships, strictly for the love of the game.
"“I come from an era where that’s not how it was. So that’s still instilled in me. And I don’t have any problem with how it’s done now. (It’s) just not for me,” Carter, 41, said Thursday on a conference call for the Jr. NBA World Championships.“I still want to play the game,” Carter, the oldest player in the NBA said. “Whatever minutes are there, I want (them).”"
Whether Carter plays for the Hawks until next season or until he’s 60, it’s a marvel that he’s retained some of his explosion to the point he can still get worth minutes. With hops like that as a teenager, one could wonder if Carter would have made a good transition from high school to the pros. Of course, we will never know that answer. But if you keep watching the footage, all we can do is wonder what could have been if he went pro in 1995.
