New York Jets ā Joe Namath
The New York Jets began life in professional football as the New York Titans, although that name only lasted for two years. Established in 1960, the Jets played in the AFL until the merger in 1970, and have not done much winning since then.
In fact, the Jets have not won a championship in professional football in 50 years, as their last title came all the way back in Super Bowl III against the Indianapolis Colts. Quarterback Joe Namath guaranteed they would beat the Colts, and he made true on that promise, and it likely is the reason he is in the Hall of Fame today.
You have to go back to that Super Bowl win to find the best throwback jersey a Jets fan could ever want. The team has gone back to these at times as an alternate jersey, but maybe they should have just kept the uniform the same over the last 50 years.
The real issue with all the losing, especially lately, is the fact that their division has been owned by the New England Patriots. Sure, the Jets put a pretty sorry team on the field a lot of the time, but even when they are good, it is very hard to overcome Tom Brady and company.
There is new hope surrounding the Jets organization now, as they spent the No. 3 overall pick on USC quarterback Sam Darnold. He is supposed to be their next Namath, and hopefully, if they ever make it back to the Super Bowl, they will don those jerseys from back in the 1960s.
