Fantasy Football Team Preview – Seattle Seahawks

How do you write about your hometown team, the team you’ve been rooting, bleeding, crying for, for 34 years without bias? Those beloved Seattle Seahawks?

You probably don’t.

But I’m gonna try! #GoHawks (That’s the last bit of fandom you’ll hear from me in this article. Probably.)

The Seahawks didn’t make the playoffs last year for the first time since 2011. An aging roster bogged down by injury plagued the former Super Bowl contenders.

More from FanSided

This off-season brought about a ton of change in Seattle. New offensive and defensive coordinators. SIX pro-bowlers not returning due to injury, roster move or holdout. It’s hard to close your eyes and see the Hawks getting back to the playoffs in 2018.

If they are going to turn it around, it starts and ends with quarterback Russell Wilson. Coming off his best fantasy season ever, in which he led the league in fantasy points, Wilson is due for a correction. Most drafts will have him going 3rd or 4th. But diminished weapons, and a return of focus philosophically to the power running game will limit his effectiveness.

The wide receivers are intriguing in Seattle. Speedster Tyler Lockett is playing healthy for the first time since 2016. The Hawks like Jaron Brown, who comes in from Arizona, and is likely to win the starting spot opposite Doug Baldwin, who’s expected to play week 1 after missing all of preseason with a knee injury.

Seattle also brought in Brandon Marshall. I expect him to make the team, and if he does, he’s a sneaky pick to rack up red zone production. I think Seattle will use him like they used Jimmy Graham last year, as the go to guy in the end zone. That’s sneaky good production for where you’ll be able to grab him.

I Gotta Get Me One of Those!

And yet, Wilson still is the best thing going on the Seahawks. His running ability makes him a great dual threat as always, racking up yards on the ground as well as through the air. I expect his numbers to come down this year, so don’t look for his value to be what it was in 2017.

Buyer Beware

Everywhere I look, I see Rashaad Penny going way way higher than he should. Granted, a lot of that has stopped since his broken finger, but even before that, Pete Carroll has been very clear: Chris Carson is the team’s starter. Nothing that’s happened in camp, or pre-season has changed that outlook. Even before Penny’s injury. In re-draft leagues, Penny should be an after thought.

Stay Woke

Aaannnnnnnd that makes Chris Carson the sleeper! Carson has been drafted laaaaaate late late in the mocks I’ve seen. I just printed one off this morning that has him going in the 8th round. That’s TREMENDOUS value. Most I’ve seen have him going AFTER Penny. Again, don’t buy the Penny hype. Carson is the back to own.

Go Hawks. (Oops)
