6. Domingo Acevedo

Acevedo has been a forgotten name in the Yankees organization as of late. It’s easy for fans to forget he was called up for a day earlier in the season, but he never got a chance to make his major league debut.

It’s likely time for the 24-year-old to either break through with the Yankees or find another organization. Acevedo has been good in AA, this season, but not great. The fact that he’s averaging under a strikeout per inning is a bit of a red flag.

Don’t look for Acevedo to come up and pitch in high leverage situations, but it would be nice for the Yankees to give him his first taste of action in September. That would better prepare him to compete for a spot in next year’s bullpen.

5. Chance Adams

Adams didn’t look very good his last time out for the Yankees, and it got him sent back down to the minors this week. Expect him to make the trip back to New York when September arrives.

There’s a real debate within the organization over whether or not Adams can regain the excellent stuff he flashed during 2017. He just hasn’t been the same guy this year. Even deploying him as a reliever in the majors hasn’t given his stuff a solid uptick.

If he wants to have a career with the Yankees, he’ll need to find an out pitch quickly. A strong finish to this season could put him in great shape to contend for a spot in the big leagues next year.

4. Tyler Wade

Many fans thought Wade was coming back to the majors when Didi Gregorius went down with a heel injury. Instead, the Yankees opted to go with Luke Voit. That may be a sign that Wade’s stock inside the organization is on the decline.

Even so, he’s a solid bet to get called up next week. If nothing else, he gives Boone another glove to deploy at multiple positions late in games. Wade also has enough speed to be a useful pinch runner. He may never be more than a utility guy, but the Yankees could use a guy like that at the moment.
