Sundays are usually the time for NASCAR Cup Series action, but a different race is going down on Sunday, Aug. 26.
There was no Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race on Saturday night, so surely there must be one on Sunday, August 26, right?
Alas, no. There aren’t many off weeks during the long Cup Series season, but this final Sunday in August is indeed one of them. It gives drivers and crews a chance to recharge before the final part of the season — crucial since there are no weekends off the rest of the way — and allows them more time to prepare for the Lady in Black, as Darlington looms for the holiday weekend.
However, there is NASCAR racing this weekend, including a race today in another series that is very important. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Playoffs get underway in intriguing fashion with a road course duel at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Each playoff race in this first round is arguably more important than the other two series because there are only two cutoffs (one from eight to six drivers after the third playoff race, and then the cut from six to the Championship 4 after the sixth race). On top of that, there are three weeks before the next Truck Series playoff race, plenty of time to ponder what went wrong for those who don’t get off to a fast start today.
Ben Rhodes and Noah Gragson, two drivers who qualified for the playoff field and are racing for the championship, will start from Row 1 for the Chevrolet Silverado 250 at CTMP. We’ve got all the information you need to watch it live right here.
The NASCAR Cup Series returns to action next Sunday night, Sept. 2, with the Bojangles Southern 500 from Darlington Raceway. TV coverage of that race begins at 6:00 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
