Fantasy Football Preseason Week 3 Reaction
By Ben McDaniel
Another week of the NFL preseason is in the books! As we’ve gotten closer to the start of the regular season, some fantasy football situations have become clearer, while others are as cloudy as ever. Follow me on Twitter @BenMcD_Sports to share some of your thoughts from this past week! Thanks for reading, Fantasy Football Preseason Week 3 Reaction!
Adrian Peterson is back and better than ever.
Okay, okay. I admit he’s probably not going to be better than ever, but he is absolutely going to be a valuable asset to fantasy football owners this season. AD saw his first action on Friday night, and was able to churn out an impressive 56 yards on 11 carries. More importantly though, did you see the highlights? His trademark violent running style was on full display as he punished defenders like it was 2012. Given the opportunity for a heavy workload, it’s time we start viewing Peterson as low-end RB2.
James Conner is the top handcuff in Fantasy Football.
If you read my article about Le’Veon Bell, you’ll remember that six out of the last seven running backs to lead the league in touches, failed to play more than eight games the following year. Grabbing Conner as a handcuff is a move that should already be on the radar of any owner who is heavily invested in Le’Veon Bell. As well as being a great handcuff, Conner could be a great stash candidate if you have an empty roster spot. He has been impressive in preseason action, and like Bell, has the ability to impact a game as a pass catcher. This last week, he was actually held to 18 rushing yards on 10 attempts but was able to catch all 6 of his targets for 52 yards. If Bell goes down, Conner’s versatility will make him a borderline top 10 running back.
Which Jaguars Wide Receiver will lead the team in fantasy points is still a mystery.
Through three weeks of preseason games I thought we’d have some clarity on the Jags wide receiver situation. I was wrong. The safe bet would have been Marquise Lee, but he just sustained a knee injury that will force him to miss the entire season. Keelan Cole, Dede Westbrook, and Donte Moncrief will each have weeks where they are playable, but good luck guessing which weeks they’ll be. Unless one guy really steps up and grabs the lead role, this is a situation I’ll be avoiding outside of the occasional DFS GPP play.

Tyler Eifert is a thing again.
If you’ve been burned so many times that you just want to skip this part, I understand. Sources have been working hard to find out if rumors of Eifert actually being made out of glass are true. While the Cincinnati Bengals tight end has only started 2 out of the last 32 games due to various injuries, he does finally appear to be fully recovered and good to go for 2018. The team seems to have a plan in place to limit his snaps in an effort to keep the big man healthy. Normally, that would seem like bad news for a player’s fantasy outlook, but for Eifert, it should be seen as good news. Check out this tweet from Adam Levitan:
“Tyler Eifert in on just 14 of Dalton’s 26 snaps Sunday. But ran 13 routes, 1 run block, 0 pass blocks. Saw 3 targets. Could be fantasy viable even as part-time player.”
We’ve seen other tight ends produce for fantasy football owners in limited action. In a potentially explosive Bengals offense, he’s worth a late-round flyer. Just make sure your roster isn’t constructed in such a way that you’ll ever have to depend on him.
The Kansas City Chiefs defense is going to be a tasty matchup for opposing players.
Either the Chicago Bears have one of the most explosive second string units of all time, or the Kansas City Chiefs defense stinks. Which one sounds more likely? Against the Chiefs starting defense, Chase Daniel was able to complete 15 of 18 attempts for 198 yards and 2 touchdowns. That’s a QB rating of 149.5 for the career backup. Chase Daniel was also able to transform into Michael Vick at times while rushing for 47 yards on 6 carries. To add insult to injury, Kevin White was able to snag his first career NFL touchdown after years of fighting the injury bug. This sure doesn’t look like the stingy Kansas City defense we’re accustomed to.
