38. Fabien Causeur, SG, Real Madrid

Nationality/College: France

2017-18 stats: 7.1 points, 1.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists per game (Real Madrid)

Career synopsis: This will be Causeur’s seventh Euroleague appearance. He helped Real Madrid win the title last year, and also has been to the Final Four in 2016 with Baskonia. He also has played for Brose Bamberg and Cholet in Euroleague, and was on the same French squad at Le Havre that produced NBA centers Ian Mahinmi and Alexis Ajinca.

Representative Highlight Play:

What’s his skill set?: A combo guard who excels running secondary pick-and-roll on Real Madrid’s bench units. He gets to the rim at a high rate, and also has a nice, fluid release on his pull-up jumper. He’s best when he can get in a rhythm against mismatches.

What makes him special?: Causeur is probably the guy who is going to be charged with taking over for Luka Doncic for the defending champs. He was Madrid’s sixth man last season, a role that’s perfect for him, because he was able to duplicate a lot of what Doncic brought to the table by attacking the rim and creating for Madrid’s big men. Now, he’ll be more in the spotlight, which is closer to what he was asked to do at Bamberg, where he was the generator for a complex offense and performed fairly well. If he can excel in the spotlight, Real Madrid shouldn’t miss a beat.
