MLB Fantasy Baseball: Hot Waiver Wire Options in the Infield and Outfield

OF Billy McKinney Blue Jays (ESPN 6.5% – Yahoo! 7%)

McKinney was a first round draft pick of the Athletics in 2013. He is  still just 24 years old and is finally getting playing time. It wasn’t until recent that he started to show a bit of power with 13 home runs and 32 RBIs in 56 games at the AAA level. Eventually, the Yankees would move him as part of a deal involving starting pitcher J.A. Happ, and the Jays are giving him an opportunity to prove he belongs.

With Curtis Granderson getting up there in age, he is getting a chance to rest while McKinney fills in, and he has not disappointed. Through eight games with his new club, he has three home runs and nine RBIs. He is slugging .870 and has an OPS of 1.387.

OF Daniel Palka White Sox (ESPN 4.0% – Yahoo! 5%)

Palka Power! Daniel Palka was not one of the high-end prospects that you may have expected to hear about this season. If your team is desperate for home runs, look no further than this Chicago South Sider. He showed great power in the minors going three consecutive seasons with 20+ home runs.

The Sox may be near bottom of their division, but they are playing solid baseball right now. The future looks bright for the White Sox with young core pieces Jose Abreu, Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech debuting, and soon to be Eloy Jimenez. Palka has been a pleasant surprise as a DH and outfielder. He wows the fans with light tower power giving the Sox 19 home runs with a ridiculous .230 ISO.

OF Roman Quinn Phillies (ESPN 1.5% – Yahoo! 2%)

If it’s speed your looking for, check out this kid Roman Quinn. In his first three minor league seasons, he swiped 30+ bags. Now, with 24 big league games under his belt, he is making a case to stick. As long as he keeps his OBP up, he is a threat to steal a bag. The speed also helps turn singles into doubles and doubles into triples.

He has four doubles and two triples out of the leadoff spot and should score plenty of runs with Rhys Hoskins hitting behind him. Quinn is on a role with a six game hit streak with four out six multi hit performances.

INF David Bote Cubs (ESPN 4.6% – Yahoo! 2%)

Yes we discussed Bote a few articles ago and you may have dropped him since then due to a recent slump. Well folks, he’s back, and with a vengeance! He had yet another walk off home run and is showing a steady approach at the plate. Many of his home runs have come with two strikes. Three of those dingers have come against opposing teams closers, Raisel Iglesias, Brad Boxberger and Ryan Madson.

You never want a player to get injured, but Kris Bryant‘s DL stint may end up being a blessing in disguise. With the Cubs in first place in the NL Central, and Bryant out with the shoulder, Bote has stepped in and become a home town favorite. He has a 134  wRC+ and .374 wOBA and has made hard contact 42% of the time. Nothing is certain, but if the Cubs continue to lead their division, Bote should stick with the big league club even when Bryant rejoins the team.

MLB Fantasy Baseball: Hot Waiver Wire Options on the Mound

    P Sonny Gray Yankees (ESPN 24.5% – Yahoo! 42%)

Let’s be honest here, Sonny Gray has been abysmal since joining the Yankees. The strikeouts are nowhere near where they were earlier in his career. But if your team is in desperate need of innings, you can look to Gray for the potential of winning games solely due to the Yankee offensive power. Gray had a fantastic performance on the 25th, granted it was against the Orioles. But it is something to keep an eye on as he went 6.1 innings surrendering just three hits with seven strike outs.

    P Austin Gomber Cardinals (ESPN 17.5% – Yahoo! 21%)

The Cardinals have really hit their stride with Mike Matheny earning the new role of former St. Louis coach. Mike Schildt has taken over as interim manager and the players are really working hard for him. Matt Carpenter looks rejuvenated in a position to fight for NL MVP. But is a young pitcher in town that is proving to be a tough matchup. His name is Austin Gomber.

Gomber is a former 4th round pick of the Cards and went 15-3 in his first full season in single-A. He has progressed through the minors and now the big lefty is dealing in St. Louis. He is currently 4-0 in six starts with a 2.79 ERA. Earlier in the season he was used in the bullpen but has recently been utilized in the rotation. He boasts a 7.82 K/9 and a minuscule 0.59 HR/9.

P Lucas Giolito White Sox (ESPN 12.7% – Yahoo! 23%)

Giolito was once thought of as one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball. He was a major piece of the Adam Eaton deal with the Nationals. Things have not gone smoothly for Giolito as he leads the league in BB/9 by a large margin at 4.79. The ERA has not looked so good either, but he can get you strike outs. In his last five starts, he is 3-1 and has had 6+ strike outs in each game.
