There’s no telling when one could happen, but an NBA expansion draft would be an epic event.

NBA expansion is a hot topic, for very obvious reasons. The addition of one or more NBA teams to the Association would be huge, and seeing new franchises born in real time is always exciting.

More important than the franchises themselves are the players involved. An NBA expansion means an expansion draft would be in order, and that would be the event of the damn decade. Imagine the Woj bombs!

The typical NBA Draft featuring only young players is a lot of fun on its own. In this draft, established players with NBA pasts are up for grabs. Teams would be broken up in order for one or two more to be formed. The drama and intrigue would be unmatched.

The best part is, based on the recent NHL expansion, the new teams can be competitive very quickly. The Las Vegas Golden Knights made it all the way to the Stanley Cup in their very first season thanks to some savvy team-building.

A new NBA club probably couldn’t do the same, unless they somehow obtained a legitimate star, but they might have the tools to do so. If Adam Silver and the owners feel the talent pool is strong enough, expansion will happen eventually. And it will be glorious.
