Barack Obama – West Ham

Barack Obama is widely known around the world for his accomplishments. Obama was a United States senator from 1997 to 2004, a graduate of the Harvard Law School and a former professor of law at the University of Chicago. His crowning achievement, of course, is his election as President of the United States in 2008. Obama served two terms and his presidency ended in 2016.

We learned quite a bit about President Obama during his time in office, and some of those revelations were in the world of sports.

President Obama openly rooted for many Chicago sports teams, including the NBA’s Bulls and Major League Baseball’s White Sox. His love for basketball is well known, as he often played the game while in office and even scrimmaged with the University of North Carolina basketball team during his campaign for the presidency.

President Obama rarely spoke on soccer during his time in office, but it was revealed that West Ham were his team of choice during his campaign in 2008. The former President felt an attachment to the club while traveling to London years ago, and watches their games on television when his busy schedule allows. Apparently, one of the president’s relatives living in London is a West Ham supporter, and watching a game with them created his interest in the club.

Late in his second term, Obama met with then-West Ham vice chairman Karren Brady when she took a trip to America. If the former President can make it to the London Stadium to attend a game, it would definitely be big news in both America and England.
