Elton John – Watford

Some of the fans on this list are big fans of their club, going to matches when their schedule permits or never missing a match on television. Others take it a step further, as minority owners who actually have a small say in the operations of their team of choice. Very few of the fans on our list can say they were not only involved with their club on a professional level, but that they were the club’s chairman.

Sir Elton John is one of the few.

John took over as Watford’s chairman in 1976, while the team was in the fourth division of English soccer. Under John’s guidance, and his willingness to spend and help the team succeed, the Hornets earned promotion into the first division for the 1982-83 season. The team competed in Europe and were even FA Cup finalists in 1984, losing to Everton.

Sir Elton John’s tenure as chairman ended in 2002, but he continued as the club’s president for a few more years.

To this day, he still holds a significant stake in Watford, though he is no longer involved as a decision maker within the boardroom.

He constantly finds time to give back to Watford, namely through two concerts held at their stadium, Vicarage Road in 2005 and 2010. The club has been as kind to John as he has to them, and they confirmed his legendary status in 2014. The east side of the ground was christened as “Sir Elton John Stand,” affirming John’s position as one of Watford’s most legendary figures.
