The Euroleague’s 50 best players: 30-21
28. Anthony Gill, SF, Khimki Moscow
Nationality/College: American (Virginia)
2017-18 stats: 10.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists per game (Khimki)
Career synopsis: Gill went straight from Virginia to Turkey, where he had a phenomenal debut season at Yesilgiresun in Turkey. He turned that into a Summer League chance with the Hornets and Cavaliers in 2017, and Khimki signed him shortly after. This will be his second Euroleague season.
Representative Highlight Play:
What’s his skill set?: At 6-foot-8, 230 pounds, Gill makes for a very nice power forward that can defend the perimeter. He is a leaper who can protect the rim on the weak side, and offensively works well from the dunker spot, while also stepping out to hit 42.2 percent from 3.
What makes him special?: It’s hard to see a way where Gill repeats his 2017-18 season and doesn’t find his way back to the NBA. He seems well equipped to be a solid modern NBA small forward, with his athletic package marrying nicely with his abilities as a rebounder and shooter. He might be the best defensive four in Euroleague thanks to his training under Tony Bennett at Virginia and current coach Georgios Bartzokas. He should help Khimki stay competitive in Euroleague this year despite some turnover, and if so, he seems destined to be the next serviceable mid-20s wing to translate directly from winning basketball in Euroleague to winning in the NBA.
