DraftKings Early MLB Picks August 30: Clevinger is the best option
If you thought yesterday was slim with just two games, this is even worse! There are only two games in the main DraftKings tournament today, but we have at least one good pitching option and at least one other that doesn’t look too bad. Most of the pitchers got blown up yesterday. We shouldn’t see that today.

The weather is good for the two day games in Ohio, but the wind is blowing in from right in Cleveland which could cut the lefty power a bit.
We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!

Top Tier:
Mike Clevinger ($9,900): While some of his teammates have had their issues with Minnesota, Clevinger is not one of them. Clevinger has held the Twins to a .237 average in 76 at bats with three homers, six runs, and 19 strikeouts. That said, Clevinger has had two no decisions against the Twins this year with just eight of those 19 strikeouts. Despite the good overall numbers, Clevinger has been average against Minnesota this year, and I could honestly get on board with wanting to fade him. Of course, then the problem becomes where to recoup the points elsewhere because none of the other three are going to outscore him.
Middle Tier:
Wade Miley ($7,800): The Reds have really struggled against Miley, hitting just .138 in 29 at bats with a staggering 12 strikeouts. On top of that, all of the hits are singles! The Reds have hit pretty well in this series, so I don’t know if we can count on Miley to put up dominant numbers, but at least he has held his own in limited chances. That’s good enough on this slate.
Jake Odorizzi ($6,900): The Indians are only hitting .245 against Odorizzi in 151 at bats, but they have seven homers and 27 runs with just 25 strikeouts. Those odds make for a very risky play. Even on a four pitcher slate, I would avoid Odorizzi unless you are making dozens of lineups.
Bargain Pitchers:
Cody Reed ($4,900): The Brewers are hitting .346 in 26 at bats with a homer and five RBI off of Reed already. Milwaukee’s power is mostly from the left side, so Reed actually does have a chance to neutralize some of this power. The current Brewer lefties are only 3-12 against Reed with no extra base hits. There is decent potential here since Reed does have seven strikeouts in those 26 at bats.
Top Tier:
While Cleveland hasn’t hit Odorizzi as hard as you may think, some of them have still done very well against him. Lindor and Jose Ramirez are very expensive, but they have both homered twice against Odorizzi in their careers. So has Edwin Encarnacion. Michael Brantley has the other homer. If you aren’t opposed to using Reed in a pitcher’s slot, you can afford this Cleveland stack. That’s about the only way though.
Eugenio Suarez homered again last night. He is definitely worth a look against Wade Miley. Using whomever catches isn’t a bad idea either.

Middle Tier:
Ryan Braun has the homer off of Cody Reed. He also has all five of the RBI. Lorenzo Cain, Arcia, and Christian Yelich are all in play too. Yelich is the only lefty I would really consider here though because he is 2-4 against Reed.
Rosario and Kepler have both homered off of Mike Clevinger, so they could be worth a look. Miguel Sano has taken Clevinger deep as well, but his alarming strikeout rate continues to put a damper on ever using him.
Bargain Shoppers:
I’m not crazy about a lot of Reds, but I’m going to keep playing Billy Hamilton as long as he keeps hitting and/or getting on base.
