Snowfall season 2, episode 7 recap: The best laid plans
By Zoe West
On Snowfall this week Franklin wanted to expand his business, while both Teddy and Lucia tried to cover their tracks.
No one would like to go to a movie with Franklin and his friends, they spent the whole time (that we saw at least) talking. Then Franklin took them to a beach. Being in LA, you would think they went to the beach at least occasionally, but judging from this scene perhaps not. Franklin was making plans, but not everyone was all in.
One of his friends was considering betraying Franklin by giving his crack recipe to Lucia. It’s a pretty tangled web, He would give it to Lucia in return for being led to the people who killed his friends a few episodes ago. Lucia promised to find/get the recipe to pay off a debt, that would otherwise cost her life.
Teddy finally figured out who was tracking his operation: the DEA. This complicated things, because of his association with Lucia. He needed to use her drugs and her connections to finance his operation, so if she got taken down that would be a problem. He got in touch with the higher-ups there to warn them about something coming. What? who knows. It seems like that would be some large-scale event, but he immediately went to Franklin insisting that they put their arrangement on hold for a bit.
Franklin wasn’t too thrilled with the idea. Especially given his expansion plans. He made a nice (and a bit complicated) analogy to the expansion of McDonald’s. He started selling out of an ice cream truck, so fast food cocaine joints wouldn’t be that far-fetched I guess.
Soledad and Tony had a bit of an argument on how to proceed. Soledad asked for 48 hours last week to take Lucia and co. down, but time ran out. So it looked like Lucia would be in for a bit of a surprise, but Pedro might be in danger, and Soledad was out of luck.
Franklin showed up at a party, that wasn’t supposed to be a party. Wanda (and Leon) decided they deserved some of the drugs they cooked, and just took them without asking/paying. When Franklin confronted her about it Wanda was pretty clearly high, so that went about as well as you would expect. He essentially fired her. It wasn’t totally clear if Leon would be welcomed back either. That could get in the way of Franklin’s plans.
Teddy and Mat might be in trouble. They ordered a lot of weapons in the last episode, and insured them, but without payment. The money was supposed to come from Franklin selling drugs, which he did, but with the DEA watching Teddy it had become impossible (or almost impossible) for them to get the money out. Meaning they couldn’t pay up.
Aunt Louie got into a fight in the club with another woman over Louie’s past occupation as a prostitute. Essentially, Louie didn’t like her spreading it around to their friends. They left the cub together, but the argument wasn’t over. Later on, it came back up, and they fought, and the woman ended up dead. So that definitely won’t be mentioned again.
Kevin finally came to a decision and brought the recipe to Lucia. In his words, “betraying your best friend ain’t easy.” But Gustavo promised to take him to them, and off they went.
Teddy and Matt finally got to their plane hanger, to find a party going on. Their associates had gotten frustrated with canceling their pickups. Teddy needed to get new registration for the plane so it wouldn’t be tracked, but he’d have to do it without his pilot somehow. The other men took Matt captive, to serve as a hostage until Teddy got back on track.
Despite not being on good terms with his mother, Franklin was a bit affected when he learned she was close to losing her house. Without her knowing, he not only paid off their mortgage debt but the entire thing. His mother wasn’t happy about it, her distaste for Franklin’s business went deep.
Soledad and Pedro met up with Gustavo and Lucia. It was pretty clear everyone involved was suspicious, though not everyone knew why. They got Lucia and Pedro to split up, so Lucia could confront him about Soledad’s association with the DEA. Pedro almost seemed like he had been waiting for the moment. He allowed her to corner him, then openly stated his desire to help the DEA bring his family down.
Pedro said he didn’t really blame Lucia, it was just what she had become after seeing her sister killed. That wasn’t what Lucia wanted to hear so she shot him. Three times. And (dying) Pedro promised her she would hear his voice every day for the rest of her life.
Somehow I can’t see Gustavo’s altercation with Soledad going that quietly, but I guess we’ll find out next week.
