5. Van dijk leads Liverpool to victory over Leicester

Last season, Liverpool were unplayable at points. They tore teams apart with their three-pronged attack of Mohamed Salah, Saido Mane and Roberto Firmino. What they lacked was a consistent defense.

The Reds back line was called into question on several occasions, prompting the £75 million signing of Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk. Van Dijk didn’t necessarily take long to settle in but it seems Jurgen Klopp has finally got a leader and three hard-working defenders beside him.

This has been shown by Liverpool’s opening three matches, in which they’ve not conceded a goal and netted seven themselves. On Saturday, they face a more difficult task as they travel to the King Power Stadium to play Leicester.

The Foxes will provide a much greater attacking threat than Brighton, Crystal Palace and West Ham have for the Reds so far. This means that the game could come down to van Dijk’s performance at the back.

The Dutch center-back has formed a strong partnership with Joe Gomez it seems and under van Dijk’s guidance, Gomez is starting to look more comfortable and confident in his defensive duties. The duo’s performance against Crystal Palace two weeks ago was a great example of this.

They’ll need to be that resilient again with the likes of Demarai Gray, James Maddison and Kelechi Iheanacho all knocking on their defensive door. However, we fancy van Dijk to put in another stellar performance and lead Liverpool to their fourth win on the trot with a clean sheet to go with it.
